Webflow or WordPress: which one fits your SME?

Webflow or WordPress: which one fits your SME?

Anyone planning a new website eventually hits this question: WordPress, the best-known system in the world, or Webflow, which has grown fast among agencies and SMEs in recent years? Both are good. But they suit different situations.

WordPress: flexible but maintenance-heavy

WordPress is open source and runs on almost any hosting. There is a plugin for nearly every feature, from shops to booking systems. That freedom has a price: the theme, plugins and WordPress itself need regular updates. If they lapse, the website becomes a security risk. Many hacked SME websites are outdated WordPress installations.

Webflow: less tech, more focus on content

Webflow is a professional-grade builder. Design, CMS and hosting come from one place. There are no plugins to go stale and no servers to maintain. Security updates, SSL and a fast content delivery network are included. You edit copy, blog posts and case studies directly on the page without breaking the layout.

The comparison in five points

  • Security and maintenance: far less effort with Webflow. WordPress needs a maintenance plan.
  • Design freedom: very high in Webflow, without code. In WordPress it depends on the theme or page builder.
  • Features: WordPress wins on special features thanks to plugins. Webflow covers websites, blogs and multilingual sites very well.
  • Hosting location: you can run WordPress with a Swiss host. Webflow hosts on global infrastructure. If you must host in Switzerland, WordPress is the better fit.
  • Running costs: Webflow has a fixed hosting fee. WordPress hosting is often cheaper, but maintenance costs come on top.

Our recommendation

For most SME websites, meaning company profile, services, case studies, blog and contact, we recommend Webflow. You get a custom design, a fast site and can edit content yourself without worrying about technology. We recommend WordPress if you need a large online shop, very specific features or hosting in Switzerland.

Moving from WordPress to Webflow

Many of our projects are moves from an older WordPress site. Content and blog posts can be carried over, and with proper redirects your Google rankings are kept. More on our website design page. Not sure which system suits you? Write to us and we'll tell you honestly what we would recommend.
